Comet's inaugural outing was at Paintball Sam's in Racine, WI in May of '96. It was an... intresting event. Ya see, at the Sam's game I usually have a mixed time. Someone always manages to piss me off, but at the same time I still try to enjoy myself. I ask myself why I go back, but I get reminded that I do so because it's good friends, good times, and some good players.

Well, Hobbes Patrol drove to the game, and I put on the costume one I was there. It was kinda nerve-wracking, but I managed to do it without anyone seeing me. We chose the white team as ours. I met up with a lot of the Team Internet people, and we went out. I think the quote came from Ken, who said "Tyger. You're right. I don't believe it."

The first firefight was priceless! I ran into position, and started shooting at a blue player. He dropped his gun and stared at me in total disbelief. I had a good ten seconds of good shooting, but I couldn't get him. But he moved just as the one clear shot wizzed past the space his head was in moments before... (Feh.)

I got a lot of looks of disbelief that day, and I was having a fun time. However, some of the commentary got old fast. To be exact...

Top things I got sick of hearing in the deer costume!

"Hey, look! It's Bambi!"
"You should have painted your nose red! Then you could be Rudolph!"
Corrolary : "Where's Rudolph?"
And I forgot my deer tags at home!"
Corrolary : "I thought it was turkey season..."
"DEER CROSSING!"
"Yes deer..." (Spoken very whiny...)

...and into the abyss...

Not like I wasn't expecting it, but not in the sheer volume I got it in! It got downright annoying! But, with over 470+ people there, everyone wants to add something, yes?

Anyhow, I managed to say hi to some people I did know, and I got a nice pic. of me and Fred Schultz before the second game by the flag station Fred is a really cool guy. I've heard a lot of nasty things said about him, but I've been of the opinion of when you're on the top everyone has a better shot at you. Anyhow, Freddy is very good at getting people to go. I've learned a heck of a lot from watching him play.

The costume was well recieved. I didn't get shot at by my own players, which I'm very happy about. A few weird things happened that day. I lead the charge into the other team at one point. After we made it, I looked behind and said "The deer just led the charge. Something is WRONG with this!" And got a laugh from those who could hear me.

Then again, some humor is, well, out there. Kendrick See e-mailed me a jpg a few days after the event. It's, well... You look and see what you think.

All told, it was a good outing for Comet it ended up that I wasn't getting mauled, like I expected. And so I could relax a little in later outings.
